Hoarseness
The vocal cords are located in the neck at about the level of a man’s Adam’s apple. Abnormalities of the vocal cords can cause hoarseness. The cause of hoarseness can be as simple as post-nasal drip or as worrisome as cancer related to tobacco use. After a thorough history and physical, the vocal cords are examined using a fiber-optic laryngoscope (or flexible telescope). Treatment will then be tailored to the individual.
